CONSIDER YOURSELF A SHOPPER #22: IS IT TIME TO GIVE THE WHITE T-SHIRT THE SUMMER OFF?
We also discuss jewelry, Bode x Nike, and more!
Hello all! Welcome to the weekly edition of the “Consider Yourself a Shopper Supplement.” This is where I share with you what I've recently bought, what's in my cart, or simply on my mind! To read the full letter you must be a paid subscriber, so if you don't want to miss out on any links and fun tidbits, consider becoming a paid subscriber. Without further ado, let's get started.
I started putting this letter together in my head while I was at the gym on Monday. I made the unfortunate mistake of locking myself out of my apartment, so instead of spending my customary 30 minutes at the gym—which usually consists of running on the treadmill for 10 minutes, rowing (I absolutely love the rowing machine), aimlessly walking around trying to figure out which machines look the least intimidating, and finishing off the session with a 10-minute steam in the sauna—this Monday, I had to kill time before my roommate could let me into the building. I ended up spending a good two hours hopping from one machine to the next, sweating out a weekend filled with Lambrusco and vodka, trying to figure out what to say in this mid-week newsletter. Oh, did I mention that the soundtrack to this workout/idea session was none other than Frank Sinatra’s Trilogy: Past, Present, and Future? It’s probably one of the quirkiest albums I’ve listened to. There’s a song on the album where he gets on a spaceship that flies him to different planets, and he describes knowing that Uranus is heaven if he is greeted at the station with a cheese and tomato pizza and red wine.
What came to mind during those two Sinatra-filled hours was, firstly, were these jelly Ancient Greek Sandals Hermes style sandals (the Greek god, not the brand).
(Also, if you're itching for The Row jelly sandals but can't stomach the price—which I think will come out to around $890—Ancient Greek has a version of that delicious jelly sandal coming out soon.) Additionally, I thought about what an interesting year it's been and we haven’t even made it halfway through! An earthquake in New York, a total eclipse, designer musical chairs, Barry Keoghan!?! With all of this in the world, I began to ask myself, why should the white t-shirt be the summer basic? Can’t we be a bit more original?
KULE THE MODERN T-SHIRT IN HEATHER GREY
Do not get me wrong, I like everyone else love a good white shirt (Sunspel makes some of my favorite white tees.) While I was in the process of refreshing my t-shirt collection, I ventured beyond the realm of traditional white, I discovered a few alternatives. Sophisticated grey options from Kule and CDLP, a refreshing mint hue from Leset, and for those wanting even more of a wow factor there this red hot mama red number from Khaite! Now, I'm not bidding farewell to the white t-shirt altogether. Instead, I am merely suggesting a summer break for the wardrobe staple.
DORSEY CRAWFORD COCKTAIL EARRINGS
What’s a better segue from a discussion about t-shirts than one about jewelry You all may have noticed my recent immersion into the world of jewelry—a phase that, admittedly, poses a challenge to my pocketbook! However, when you consider the prices of some ready-to-wear pieces, shoes, and handbags, investing in jewelry starts to seem like a wise decision.
Dorsey has captured my heart, especially since acquiring both my tennis bracelet and necklace which I had followers vote on. Now, I find myself pondering what should be the next addition to my Dorsey collection? Perhaps a striking blue sapphire cocktail ring in the style of Princess Diana’s engagement ring, or even a pair of statement cocktail earrings that feel like the were on the show Dynasty? Keep your eyes peeled, dear reader, as another poll may be on the horizon. Get ready to have your say!
RENATO CIPULLO PENDANTS
Speaking of investment-worthy jewelry, I am borrowing a few stunning pieces from Renato Cipullo, and let me tell you, parting with them won't be easy. This family-owned brand proudly wears its Italian heritage on its sleeve (the family is from Naples to be specific), infusing their designs with rich cultural motifs, and a delightful nod to the stylish look and feel of the 70s, as seen in such pieces like the letter pendants.
Every piece they craft exudes such a level of decadent glamour, which leaves me in a bit of a pickle as to which one I should consider acquiring once I return the borrowed treasures. While my heart longs for one of their exquisite letter pendants, I must admit they currently lie outside of my budget. Nevertheless, I've been utterly taken by their astrology collection, and have fallen head over heels for both the zodiac ring and pendant.
BODE X NIKE CAPE COD JERSEY
Let's switch gears for a moment. A close friend and her husband were among the fortunate few to snag a pair of the coveted Bode x Nike Astrograbber sneakers, fetching upwards of $1,000 on resale sites (I believe the shoes are retailing for around $140). Personally, I'm not one to brave the frenzy for sneakers, so I am not even going to bother trying to get the shoes (unless there is someone in a size 8 or 8.5 that wants to sell them to me at the retail cost:) ). However, when I laid eyes on the Cape Cod jersey, I felt an irresistible pull; it seemed like the perfect emblem to showcase my affection for 'The Peninsula,' as someone referred to it during a memorable lobster and corn dinner I had out there last summer. (I didn't grow up vacationing in Cape Cod, but can someone confirm if this 'The Peninsula” moniker is legit?)
One standout feature of this collection is its reasonable price point. While scoring the shoes at retail may be a challenge, I anticipate the ready-to-wear pieces will be more accessible without hefty markups. With a collection that undoubtedly broadens its appeal, I couldn't help but wonder if this marks a
