CONSIDER YOURSELF A SHOPPER #01
Coats with tails, coffee table books, black sequins, and much much more!
I’m back from my hiatus… and I am excited to be back!
Welcome to the inaugural issue of Consider Yourself a Shopper. This will be a weekly supplement that will come out every Friday or Saturday and will serve as an extended version of my “shopping list” which can be found at the top of my general interest letters that usually come out at the beginning of the week.
Initially, when I started this newsletter, I intended to avoid a shopping-focused approach. However, I soon realized that shopping is an integral part of who I am, and it plays a significant role in our day-to-day lives. Additionally, I love sharing the things I'm obsessed with. So, without further ado, welcome to the first issue of "Consider Yourself a Shopper!"
As you all know I am a worshipper at the altar of the Olsen twins, which I mentioned in my “The Building Blocks of My Spring/ Summer Wardrobe.” With that in mind, let me please direct you to one of the best hand creams I have ever slathered on my paws. Supposedly, the twins use this hand cream from the brand Ranavat , and that is all it took for me to fork over my money. Personally, I like hand creams that are more thick but not too greasy, and this cream checks all the boxes for me.
Also on the subject of beauty-related things, I have fallen in love with this blush from Saie. Out of all the makeup products I adore blush the most. There's something romantic about adding a dash of color to your cheeks and temples.
Speaking of romance, what could be more romantic than a coat with tails? The allure of such a piece may stem from its somewhat obsolete nature. Although you may occasionally spot them in formal settings, they are rarely seen in everyday life. I adore the idea of blending formal attire with casual wear. I believe that our clothes should be cherished and worn, rather than saved for special occasions or confined to specific events. Why not pair a formal coat with jeans? This is what makes the Greg Lauren look so captivating; he effortlessly combined the formal with the casual. I have a tailcoat from Comme des Garcons, which I found it for practically nothing at this thrift shop in Gramercy.
I also love this one from Armani (if you've seen Armani himself wearing it, you know how fabulous it is!)). I could not find the Greg Lauren coat with tails, but this and this are great too!
As you all know from my letter on Beau is Afraid (2023), I believe in investing in one’s loungewear. I have practically been living in this robe and this pj set, both by Polo Ralph Lauren, since I acquire both. I love this getup so much because it reminds me of Kelly Lynch in the movie Curly Sue(1991).
I recently lost one of my silk Charvet scarves (RIP), and I have been thinking about what I want to replace that scarf with. Should I go with another Charvet? Double down with Hermes? Or opt for something unexpected like this one from Dries Van Noten? Decisions, decisions!!!
Unless you have been living under a rock, we have all seen the Vogue cover lensed by Ethan James Green, starring Margot Robbie as Barbie. The shoot, in the words of the band Aqua,”it’s fantastic.” If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I have a certain affinity for Robbie in the Saint Laurent look, simply because it screams “corporate Barbie!”
I also loved the shot of Robbie in Carolina Herrera while she is doing the classic Barbie foot pose. In this shot, she is wearing these shoes from Paris Texas, but I also love these from Prada ($140) and these from Gucci ($325.50).
I talked about this a few newsletters ago, but I have been on a coffee table kick. ONE CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY COFFEE TABLE BOOKS! I have preordered the Linda Evangelista Photographed by Steven Meisel, plan on ordering the Sofia Coppola book, and I am in desperate need of the Diana Vreeland Memo book to add to my growing Vreeland collection. There was also this great article from the New York Times all about setting your coffee table!
Amidst all the talk about the economy, one thought comes to mind: "Perhaps it's time to invest in some diamonds?" Owning a stunning tennis bracelet and, if finances allow, a matching tennis necklace is the ultimate dream. I've also been exploring lab-grown options that offer the same look for a fraction of the price.
In a previous letter, I shared a link to a piece from the brand Harago. Since then, I've developed a deep admiration for the brand. While it falls within the realm of Bode, which captures the essence of vintage textiles in its designs, Harago's pieces have a more weathered look and feel. Here ($480), here ($265), and here ($285). The brand Karu Research also fits nicely in this group. Here ($295), here ($266),and here ($275).
Finally…as my birthday approaches, I naturally have begun to ponder what should I wear? I've decided to pay homage to last year's look by opting for a black sequin ensemble. Black sequins have a unique quality—they can exude sophistication, seduction, and playfulness all at once!
I may earn some commission if you make a purchase through one of the links above. If you liked this post make sure to check out last week’s as well!
I love reading you and learn so much. Your knowledge of special small brands is second to none. Totally influenced to buy your van sono skirt - can't wait to receive! i hope your birthday is as fabulous as you are!
