NYFW Day 4: A Love Letter To Yourself
The preview of my latest collaboration with At Present, followed by events a Byredo event and the Tory Burch show.
I was indecisive about what to wear today, but during a quick search for Zoran pieces on TheRealReal, this gem practically fell into my lap. Later, I found out that Tory Burch used to work for Zoran, which felt so serendipitous since today was Tory day!
After my event, I had to change—can you imagine walking down the street in this? It’s just begging to get stained. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of my outfit, but it included a Tory Burch pistachio green satin coat (this is a dress in the same fabric as my coat, and this is not a coat but a vest in the same color as my coat), a Muji sweatshirt dress (there’s a COS version too), an Attersee t-shirt, and Xero sandals.
I know I mentioned in yesterday's post that Sunday was supposed to be my lightest day, but it turns out I was wrong (and judging by the title of that post, it seems like I also lost track of the days, haha!). The highlight of Sunday was presenting my collaboration with At Present, which will go live on their site on September 26th. I won’t dive too deeply into the details of the pieces or the story behind them just yet, but I will say that when I spoke to Solange Franklin, one of the stylists I worked with back when I was a stylist’s assistant, she described the collection as “A love letter to yourself.” I told her I was going to use that, so if you’re reading this, Solange—thank you for the perfect description.
I also want to send a huge thank you to everyone who came by. And to those who were invited but couldn’t make it—I completely understand! This week is packed with events and too little time.
The event took place on the rooftop of The Malin, a co-working space on Mercer. We had a sketch artist, blue-themed drinks and food, and it was an all-around wonderful time.
Unfortunately, I missed Zankov and Diotima due to scheduling conflicts, but from the images I’ve seen, both collections look fantastic. It’s exciting to see how both brands continue to evolve. I’ll be seeing the pieces in person when I’m in Paris, and I can’t wait for Henry and Rachel to walk me through the collections!
After my event, I had some returns to make, and then I headed up to Bergdorf Goodman for a Byredo event celebrating the launch of their newest perfume, “Desert Dawn.” The top notes include cardamom and rose petals, with a heart of carrot, cedarwood, and sandalwood, and base notes of papyrus, vetiver, and silk musk. If you’ve been following for a while, you know I’m obsessed with anything rose-scented. I recently learned that roses are the June birth flower, which makes sense as to why I’m so drawn to them.
Honestly, I’ll need to smell it again because by the time I got downstairs, the air was so heavily perfumed that it was hard to distinguish the individual notes. The event included invited guests and what I assume were regular Bergdorf clients, who got visibly excited when Byredo founder Ben Gorham walked in (carrying a Bergdorf bag, no less—I was curious to know what he bought!).
From there, I headed to Tory Burch’s show at the Domino Sugar Refinery Shell in Williamsburg, where the space was beautifully transformed with green pool tiles that tied perfectly into the theme. Before the show, I had the chance to meet the Reva, and when I showed her my Zoran set, she joked that I should let her know when I’m ready to sell any of my Zoran pieces. I replied, 'Only if you promise to tell me if you ever plan to sell any of your pieces!'
Earlier this year, I did a wear test on one of Tory's pieces and shared my love for the brand, so I won’t repeat myself here. But I will say that what I admire about Tory Burch in the context of American fashion is her ability to look to the past without getting stuck in it. She offers a fresh reinterpretation of American sportswear, and this collection was a perfect example. It literally embodied sportswear but with a twist: sequined swimsuits paired with drawstring pants, martial arts-inspired coats in red and blue and pants, and color-blocking reminiscent of sports jerseys. It was easily one of my favorite shows of the season so far.
See you all tomorrow!
