How many ways can you wear a necklace? Ooo let me count the ways...

I had the pleasure of collaborating with Ashley Harris of Don't Let Disco on a few pieces. I'm thrilled to share these pieces with you and show how I plan to style them!

After eagerly anticipating this moment and teasing the necklace for a while, I am thrilled to announce that my collaboration with Don’t Let Disco is now live and available for purchase!

From the moment I met

Ruth Disco
, it felt like I had known her my entire life. So when she approached me about creating a Disco Duet, my immediate response was, “Absolutely!” To celebrate the launch, Ashley has generously extended a special discount to readers of "Consider Yourself Cultured." Use the code JJ15 to enjoy 15% off at checkout (valid until Sunday at 7 PM!).

Before diving into how I plan to style my creations, I wanted to share a bit of backstory about the piece. When designing these items, the words versatile and eclectic were at the forefront of my mind. The necklace's grounding element is the rock crystal, complemented by groupings of coral, pearls, shells, pressed glass, and more. These elements are arranged in a pattern that culminates in a brass piece intended to mark the back of the necklace. However, as the wearer, you have the freedom to decide what you consider the back. Moreover, the necklace is designed to be multifunctional—you can wear it as a bag charm, an anklet, or maybe even a unique ear cuff if you dare, giving you the liberty to choose your own adventure.

Regarding the necklace's eclectic nature, the combination of various bead types perfectly captures the idiosyncratic look I aimed for. Additionally, since each necklace is crafted in small batches, subtle variations exist in every piece, and we encourage you to celebrate these unique differences!

After creating the necklace, Ashley and I immediately thought it would be wonderful to transform its design into a bag charm as well. While the necklace can double as a bag charm, we understand if you prefer to keep your charms and necklaces separate. Therefore, we crafted a charm that captures the essence of the necklace on a smaller scale.

To inspire you, I've put together a few looks and styling options for the collaboration pieces. I hope you find them as exciting as I do!

Enjoy!

You can wear it as well a necklace….

The vintage Murano glasses bead necklace that inspired my Don’t Let Disco collab!

While beading with Ashley, I wasn't just focused on my key words “versatile” and “eclectic.” I also had in mind a vintage Murano bead necklace I had seen in an antique store near Nick’s place upstate. I fell in love with it but decided against an impulsive purchase, choosing instead to test my luck and see if it would still be there later. With that necklace fresh in my mind, I thought, why not create my own version of the Murano necklace just in case it's sold by the time I return to Tannersville?

To my delight, the necklace was still there when I visited the antique store again. Taking it as a sign, I engaged in some novice haggling and bought it.

Shop My Vintage Edit

I love wearing both necklaces together because it’s my take on that AW necklace stack. It appears cluttered and random but is actually quite luxurious.

St. John Blazer (There are also so many options on the secondhand market as well 1, 2, 3), Sunspel t-shirt, VTG denim cut-offs (I prefer to make my own denim shorts because you can decide which length feels right for your body, versus relying upon the whim of a brand.) Jamie Haller ballet flats, Polo Ralph Lauren hat (check this one out on Etsy), and Maximum Henry belt.

While putting this look together, I wanted to find a way to wear this tweed blazer without it feeling too formal. (And yes, the object in the background is an air conditioner stand. I could have cropped it out, but I like the unexpected touch it adds. There’s a bit of intention behind leaving it there, haha!)

It might seem like a cliché to say that denim is the key to dressing something down, but the truth is, denim is a magical tool that can make even the most delicate items in your wardrobe look effortless. It can take a simple t-shirt and elevate it to a whole new level. (I should note that this effect is achieved with good-quality denim, which, in my experience, is often vintage.)

Although I don’t mind looking like one of those ladies who lunch at Michael’s and dine at The Rainbow Room, I wanted this outfit to feel more youthful. With the necklace being so colorful, it was a great opportunity to play with colors and highlight the different beads. When it comes to this necklace, don’t be afraid to embrace all its vibrant hues!
